What is hot Yoga? Yoga in sauna?

Hi guys.

Hot yoga is any yoga practiced at elevated temperatures. The most popular of these is Bikram Yoga, which was developed in the hot climate of southern India where the temperature often reached 40 C with high humidity. It has inspired several knock-offs of the program since the “Bikram” name and their series of poses is trademarked.

The Finnish trade association “Sauna From Finland” has just released their own program of Sauna Yoga that takes place in a 50 C, lower humidity Finnish sauna. The Sauna Yoga Program uses less strenuous poses than the Bikram yoga styles.

The benefits one gets from one program vs. another are a little subjective. Since each different program uses different poses for differing amounts of time. However, applying heat while performing yoga will have a different affect on your muscles and skin than performing the same poses at room temperature.
